Building and Grounds
It takes many people with a wide range of talents and skills to keep our grounds tidy and our building, both inside and outside in tip-top shape. Please consider sharing your time and talents with one of the teams below. Contact the office by calling 563-359-0816 or emailing email@example.com to make contact with the teams.
Love history? Considering volunteer for our Archives Team.
Learn about the many interesting characters who made our congregation what it is today. Help collect, preserve, house and catalog documents of historical interest – documents providing a rich record of the history of our congregation. Prepare and arrange archival exhibits for display.
Have background in painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, geothermal, or kitchen equipment? Or, even lacking experience, want to contribute your energy? The Building Team protects the congregation’s building and the integrity of its assets including the roof, floors, walls, ceilings, and all of the furniture, fixtures, and equipment within it. This includes electrical, water, sewage, ventilation, heating/air conditioning/geothermal, fire safety, and elevator systems.
The team leader also recommends repairs and or replacement of equipment, oversees budgetary planning and capital expenditures, works closely with vendors/contractors, oversees the bidding process, reviews contracts, and ensures all maintenance and repairs are completed on a timely, cost effective basis and according to church policy.
Have an interest in the natural world and the environmental threats facing the air, water, and soil of the earth? Eager to take action so that people live in greater harmony with the world around us? Join one of our five Green Sanctuary Teams: Sustainable Living, Youth Religious Education, Adult Religious Education, Worship and Celebration, and Environmental Justice. Click here for more information.
Have a keen interest in horticulture and practical skills in outdoor grounds maintenance? This could be your calling. This team manages all aspects of the care and enhancement of UUCQC’s grounds (except mowing, which is done by our custodian/factotum.)
When Does The Grounds Team Meet? It meets only as needed. Most of these meetings are "hands on" (get dirty) events to install, maintain, renovate, or clean up specific areas. Individual members of the Grounds Team take responsibilities for specific areas.
Interior Decorating and Art
Have a flare for selecting esthetic interior colors, wall coverings, window coverings, furnishings, artwork and plants? Want to coordinate these and other elements to give our building a unified and aesthetically pleasing appearance? Join this team! Not only does the Interior Decorating and Art Team ensure that the whole building is beautiful, but they also select the artists to create displays in the upstairs lobby area.
No furniture or artwork is allowed to be left at the building without the approval of the Interior Decorating and Art committee.
When Does the This Team Meet? On an ad hoc basis. Occasionally, such as when a room needs to be painted, the whole Congregation will be invited to participate.
Want an occasional Sunday volunteer job? One that is over once the service is over? Join the AV Team.
Members make each Sunday’s service electronically audible within the building and provide recordings soon after. No need for experience. It takes just one face-to-face lesson and reading a little material. This is not wizardry – it is pretty easy to learn. Work with a mentor your first few Sundays. And, be assured, if you ever have a problem, there is always someone else from the Team in the building to ask. The committee is fun because it’s task-oriented: we record each Sunday’s service and we do not have “meetings.”
