Our Stories
"My 'powerful moment' occurred over a quarter century ago and the ripples continue to this day. Reverend Charlotte Saleska came to be our minister, accompanied by her husband, Reverend Charles Saleska, who had retired from the ministry due to declining health. Chuck wanted very much to be part of a men’s group to develop a new friendship network and support during his declining days. We had no men’s group at that time but some of us agreed to form one. We met several times a month, shared our personal lives, talked about our fathers and our families, and along the way formed some deep and lasting friendships. We beat drums together, had a few outings, and slowly revealed ourselves to each other. After Chuck died, and partly in honor of his memory, we kept our Men’s Group going. We gave ourselves names like the 'Unitarian Universalist Guys' or 'UU’s Guys' or just “Youse Guys.” And the thing is, 30 years later, we are still meeting twice a month. This congregation has greatly enriched my life and it can powerfully impact yours."
