Mental Health Project

Social Change Goal: We will work for awareness of Mental Health Issues. Through awareness we hope to energize the public, as well as our own congregants to take actions in support of causes related injustices in this area. The needs identified by the community include, but are not limited to, inclusion and welcoming in the congregation, and advocating for them within areas of need. These may include gaps between service providers, access to services such as disability SS, and the shortage in general services. Success would be measured short term by small measures for one or more locally and long term by improved services, dollars allocated, increase facilities or practitioners for those affected.
Short Term Objectives
Networking with Quad City Interfaith and others on issues related to incarceration and the Scott County Mental Health Court. Working with NAMI to learn and bring awareness to the congregation. Accessing and using the information in the community and on the UUA website to educate the congregation. We will do this by workshops, forums, and announcements. We may ask the congregation to write letters to legislators or others with the ability to help those in need. The signers will search the UUA.org website for guidance and understanding of mental health issues as our denomination has presented their findings or the work of other congregations.
Longer Term Objectives
We hope to give individuals the opportunity to navigate life and systems successfully. We will look seriously at asking the congregation to fulfill the steps required to be a “Caring Congregation.”
